Tanzania Safari
The Spirit of Africa
Details about the safaris
What's included
Savanna Dream Safaris arranges travel in both the northern and southern circuits. This includes the rightfully famous Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara and Tarangire in the north. But one of our favorite destinations is Ruaha National Park in the southern part of the country. Ruaha boasts the highest concentration of lions in the world, and its mystical landscapes make for an unforgettable safari.
Our safaris are 100% customized, with private guides and vehicles. This means not having to share your guide and vehicle with strangers. We can tailor your trip so that you visit several reserves in multiple countries or, if you want to combine relaxation with wildlife viewing, we can arrange for you to spend your entire safari in one location. If you are particularly interested in a particular species, e. g. birds, elephants, or big cats, we’d be pleased to design a trip for you that focuses on that interest.
Transportation
After you arrive in-country our guides and representatives will assume full control of your travel. Your transfers are entirely our responsibility, and your safari will be conducted in a six passenger Land Cruiser, customized to open at the top for optimum game viewing.
Accommodations
Your camps, lodges and transit hotels will be arranged in advance with the cost incorporated into the price of your safari package.
Food & Beverages
All your meals are included in the package price unless otherwise indicated. Some, but not all, lodges charge separately for drinks and laundry. You will be advised in advance if your accommodation bills them separately. All the cuisine at our camps and lodges is first rate, and the bill of fare should accommodate any diet and suit any taste.
Sample Itinerary
This itinerary captures the spirit of wild Africa. It incorporates all the major game reserves and national parks in the region and offers the traveler an unforgettable wildlife experience.
Note: all of our safaris can be customized to conform to the preferences of the traveler.
Day 1
Arrive Kilimanjaro airport in Arusha, Tanzania. Overnight in or near the city
Day 2
Depart early for Tarangire National Park. Even during the rainy season, this less frequented reserve has much to offer. Its rolling hills and ancient baobab trees form a landscape that is unique in this part of the country. Tarangire is home to large herds of elephants, several lion prides, leopards, cheetahs, baboons and some of the most interesting bird life in Africa. Enjoy nearly a full day of game viewing. Lodge/camp selections to be based on traveler preferences and budget.
Day 3
Spend another full day exploring the wonders of this lovely reserve.
Day 4
Depart after breakfast for Lake Manyara National Park, arriving well before lunch. Observe the extraordinary range of bird life in the reserve during your afternoon game drive, along with the elephants, giraffes, hippos, blue monkeys and tree climbing lions for which the park is most famous.
Day 5
Leave Manyara for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area after breakfast. Arrive at the rim of Ngorongoro Crater at your pre-selected lodge in time for lunch. Then descend into Ngorongoro Crater for half day of game viewing. The Crater is one of the world’s true geological marvels. It is a volcanic caldera, about 12 miles across, with steep walls and an open plain on its floor. The wildlife viewing there is incomparable. It is a Garden of Eden in microcosm, with elephants, lions, hippos and a variety of animals on the hoof.
Day 6
A full day of game viewing in Ngorongoro Crater. We recommend an early departure with boxed breakfasts and a picnic lunch. The animals are most active before the sun clears the precipitous walls, and the Lerai Forest, the one wooded area on the Crater floor, makes an excellent stopping point for a cup of tea and some morning food. Your lunch will be taken at the hippo pool, with a limited area to walk around and the ability to access one of the Park’s few washrooms. Ngorongoro Crater is a “must see” for any visitor to northern Tanzania. Note: Ngorongoro Crater offers one of the few opportunities to see a black rhino in all of Tanzania.
Day 7
Depart after breakfast, driving west and south toward the Ndutu Conservation Area, which sits just outside the border of Serengeti National Park. Ndutu boasts unparalleled wildlife viewing during the migration season. The landscape here is varied and beautiful. It is comprised of woodland, lakes and open plains that stretch as far as the eye can see. The concentrations of wildebeest and zebra here defy description. All of these animals are in the birthing mode at this time and it is quite possible that the traveler will witness the arrival of a baby wildebeest into the world. The predators are also extremely active. Because the habitat is so favorable, the cheetah population at Ndutu is impressive and leopards are commonly spotted in the woodlands. Lions are active throughout the area.
Day 8
Continue to explore the Ndutu area and observe the activity of the wildlife during this most fascinating phase of the great wildebeest migration.
Day 9
Continue to explore the Ndutu area and observe the activity of the wildlife during this most fascinating phase of the great wildebeest migration.
Day 10
Continue to explore the Ndutu area and observe the activity of the wildlife during this most fascinating phase of the great wildebeest migration.
Day 11
Depart after breakfast for Ndutu’s airstrip for the return flight to Arusha. Freshen up in a day room at a local hotel prior to the late flight back home.
End of services.

Destination
Tanzania has a stunning range of wildlife and the most diverse set of habitats of any safari destination in Africa. The Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater are justly renowned throughout the world, but there are other reserves that match them in beauty in the studied opinion of our team. The rolling hills and ancient baobabs at Tarangire are home to huge elephant herds and a healthy population of great cats. The arid plains and wide riverbeds at Ruaha NP, on Tanzania’s southern circuit, boast the highest concentration of lions in the world. One of our team members also recently saw nine different leopards in a ten day visit to Ruaha. All these Parks are a safari goer’s dream.
Includes some of the most famous game reserves in the world. The Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara and Tarangire.
Encompasses beautiful but lesser known reserves, including Ruaha, Katavi, Mikumi and Selous. These parks see far less tourist traffic than their northern counterparts, but the game viewing is every bit as spectacular.
Complete your safari with a few days on the island of Zanzibar and enjoy the white sand beaches and gorgeous turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.
