A Journey Through Kenya
Details about the safaris
What's included
Kenya is one of the most exciting safari destinations in all of Africa. We coordinate travel to all its major game reserves and national parks, including Samburu, Laikipia, Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha, the Masai Mara, Amboseli and Tsavo East and West. The game viewing in Kenya is excellent throughout the year, but it is especially vibrant during the migration season.
Our safaris are 100% customized, with private guides and vehicles. This means not having to share your guide and vehicle with strangers. We can tailor your trip so that you visit several reserves in multiple countries or, if you want to combine relaxation with wildlife viewing, we can arrange for you to spend your entire safari in one location. If you are particularly interested in a particular species, e. g. birds, elephants, or big cats, we’d be pleased to design a trip for you that focuses on that interest.
Transportation
After you arrive in-country our guides and representatives will assume full control of your travel. Your transfers are entirely our responsibility, and your safari will be conducted in a six passenger Land Cruiser, customized to open at the top for optimum game viewing.
Accommodations
Your camps, lodges and transit hotels will be arranged in advance with the cost incorporated into the price of your safari package.
Food & Beverages
All your meals are included in the package price unless otherwise indicated. Some, but not all, lodges charge separately for drinks and laundry. You will be advised in advance if your accommodation bills them separately. All the cuisine at our camps and lodges is first rate, and the bill of fare should accommodate any diet and suit any taste.
Sample Itinerary
The journey described in this sample tour encompasses all the landscapes and wildlife Kenya has to offer.
Note: all of our safaris can be customized to conform to the preferences of the traveler.
Day 1
Arrive Nairobi. Overnight in the city.
Day 2
Depart after an early breakfast for the road trip to Tsavo West National Park. Arrive at camp or lodge in time for a late lunch. Experience an afternoon game drive enjoying the arid landscapes and fascinating wildlife of Tsavo. This reserve is home to a wide variety of animals, but is particularly well known for its interesting bird life and healthy leopard populations. Lodges and camps to be selected based on traveler preference and budget.
Day 3
Spend another full day at Tsavo West.
Day 4
Depart after breakfast for the escorted transit to Amboseli National Park. Arrive in time for a late lunch at your lodge. Spend the balance of the afternoon observing the great elephant herds of southern Kenya. Amboseli is a uniquely beautiful reserve. Its skyline to the east and south is dominated by Kilimanjaro and the run off from the mountains finds its way through the fissures in the rock and ultimately concentrates on the plain, forming a marshy area in what might otherwise be something like a desert. This marsh and its vegetation are visited daily by the elephants on a fairly regular schedule. It is, by any measure, one of the very best locations in all of Africa for elephant viewing.
Day 5
Another full day at Amboseli to enjoy its lions, cheetahs, giraffes and elephants.
Day 6
After breakfast and an early game drive, transit to the Amboseli airstrip for your flight to the Masai Mara, again arriving in time for a late lunch. The Mara is one of Africa’s most spectacular safari destinations. The gorgeous rolling hills and open grasslands are punctuated by the Talek and Mara Rivers in addition to a number of unnamed streams. The Mara offers the best opportunity to see the big five – leopard, lion, Cape buffalo, elephant and rhino – within the confines of a single reserve. Its standing as Kenya’s most popular safari destination is well deserved.
Day 7
A full day of game viewing in the Masai Mara.
Day 8
Another full day of game viewing in the Masai Mara.
Day 9
Depart after breakfast for Lake Nakuru, game driving as you exit the reserve. Arrive well in time for lunch. Spend the afternoon exploring Lake Nakuru National Park, which is home to an astonishing range of bird life and the rare Rothschild giraffe. This lovely little reserve also affords the visitor the best opportunity in East Africa to see both the black and white rhino.
Day 10
Leave Lake Nakuru after breakfast with picnic lunches for the transit to Samburu National Park. Arrive mid-afternoon at your camp, unpack and experience your first game drive at this famous but less-visited reserve. Samburu is located in an arid region in the north and central part of Kenya. Its landscapes are haunting and beautiful, with ancient hills, scrub acacia and doum palms lining the banks of the Ewaso River. It is also home to some extraordinary wildlife which the safari-goer will not find in other destinations. These include the reticulated giraffe (the most beautiful of all sub-species), the gerenuk and the Grevy’s zebra. Samburu also boasts a large elephant population, several lion prides and healthy populations of leopards and cheetahs.
Day 11
A full day of game viewing at Samburu NP.
Day 12
Another full day of game viewing at Samburu NP.
Day 13
Depart after breakfast by road or air for Nairobi and outbound flight home.
End of services.
